Chords and Swar is an innovative app aimed at easing the communication between Indian Classical and Western musicians. Due to a limited knowledge of each others musical terminologies, the interactions between musicians become puzzling at times and leads to miscommunication. Chords and Swar, as the name aptly suggests, focuses on the main harmony element of music i.e. Chords.
IMP NOTE – This is not a piano keyboard app. The piano seen in the snapshots is just to play the individual notes in the chords and not the melody or tune. If you are in search for an app to play the keyboard/piano, sadly this app is not for you.

Aimed at educating musicians who perform cross-region music, Chords and Swar is an easy to use friendly and handy pocket companion that will act as a Piano Chords to Indian Notes converter.

App explanation with a common example –

An Indian Musician saying – ‘Play a chord on piano containing ‘Sa, Komal Ga, Pa and Komal Ni’ in Kali1’, might be an alien concept for a Western musician

Similarly ….

A Western Musician saying – Play the C# Minor 7th chord on keyboard, might carry no sense to an Indian classical musician.

The interesting part in such case is that both musicians are referring to the same chord structure, as in this case -

C# - Minor 7th chord is basically the - Kali 1 Sa, Komal Ga, Pa and Komal Ni.

Chords and Swar helps ease the discomfort in such situations by educating the musicians about the different terminologies used in both the Music forms.

How to use the app?

· Select the desired root note. Notes are labeled in Western music formats (C,C#,D…) and their respective Indian formats (Safed 1, Kali 1, Safed 2...).

· Select the desired piano chord (Major, Minor, Augmented, Diminished, etc...). There are no precise Indian names to the chords hence only western terms are used.

· Selecting the chord, the user can read the notes of that particular chord in the Indian terminology.

· There is also a graphical piano keyboard highlighting all the notes in the chord.

· User have an option to listen to the entire chord by tapping the play button, or listen to the individual notes by tapping the highlighted keys on the piano keyboard.

Chord and Swar thus acts like a Chords to Indian notes converter and a musical mediator between Indian Classical and Western musicians. A must-have app if you work/interact cross-region music. Even if you are experienced in both the forms of music, Chords and Swar shall still be useful, as it has an essential and extensive database.

Share the app as much as you can so that more and more musicians benefit from it.
